Tyler, the Creator has made his long-anticipated return to music with the release of his eighth studio album, “CHOMAKOPIA”, on Oct. 28, 2024.
CHOMAKOPIA has been a long Anticipated album since Tyler’s recent release of Call Me If You Get Lost: the estate sale,” is a deluxe version of the original “Call Me If You Get Lost” album. As a standalone project, CHOMAKOPIA is not enough to get anybody into Tyler’s music from the vast majority of sounds it has to offer. The solemn sounds of “Like Him,” Tyler’s feelings towards his estranged father, to more upbeat tracks such as “Sticky” featuring GloRilla, Sexxy Red, and Lil Wayne, “Sticky” can only be described as something you would expect to hear at a homecoming football game, with its use of a mixed ensemble including horns and percussion.
Despite Tyler explicitly stating on Twitter that there would be no features, the album has a variety of features, including Daniel Caesar, Teezo Touchdown, GloRilla, Sexxy Red, Lil Wayne LaToiya Williams, ScHoolboy Q, Santigold, Lola Young, and Doechii.
Due to the success of the album, Tyler performed some of his new songs off the album at the Camp Flog Gnaw festival.
Camp Flog Gnaw has been a long-running event since 2014. The festival usually occurs during November at Dodger Stadium. This past weekend Tyler took the stage by storm during his set, performing some of his newest songs from his album. These included “ST. Chroma, Rah Tah Tah, Noid, Sticky, Take your mask off, Thought I was dead, Like him and Balloon. To say his performance was well-received would be an understatement.
During the beginning of his set fans recited the beginning lines of his song “ST. Chroma” The reciting turned into a chant, with fans yelling CHOMAKOPIA at the top of their lungs.
Aside from the new additions to the setlist, the set itself also changed with the inclusion of three shipping containers put together with CHOMAKOPIA spelled across it, resembling the truck rollout he did earlier in October for promotion of the album. Along with the new songs, Tyler invited special guests up on stage to perform the songs with him, including Sexxy Red during Sticky, inviting respective artists for their features in the songs.
Although CHOMAKOPIA has only come out recently, the album has reached the masses and has made many people feel seen and heard. Tyler’s artistry and creative production with CHOMAKOPIA have shown so many that he is an artist worth listening to. When he was starting with “Wolf” back in 2013 Tyler was considered an outcast within the rap game due to his music not sounding like what people expected from rappers. “Wolf” in itself has a storyline and it’s an Album, not songs stringed together. CHOMAKOPIA and Tyler’s career is proof that truly committing to something that you love pays off. “Everything that I said I was going to do,b**ch I did. So talk my sh*t I sure damn will.” Tyler said during a monolog while performing his song “Thought I was Dead”
