This year’s Prom at Gabrielino High School gave students a night centered on the theme “Amor Eterno.” Under the leadership of Associated Student Body (ASB) adviser Victoria Gallegos and junior class officers Crystal Vong and Chloe Tan, planning began as early as summer with a clear vision: to create an experience that would stay with students long after graduation.
The chosen theme, “Amor Eterno,” was a collaborative effort by the junior officers. When the planning team toured the venue suggested by its partnering organization, they collectively felt it was the right fit. With its architecture and fountain, the venue offered a backdrop for both indoor and outdoor activities. Gallegos shared her excitement about the venue, saying, “From the moment we saw it, we knew it would elevate the entire Prom experience.”
Planning such a big event came with obstacles. Logistical challenges arose, particularly in securing the necessary permits for blocking off the drop-off path on the street. Despite the hurdles, many students agreed that the hard work contributed to making the night special.
On Prom night, students filled the dance floor, while lines for caricatures and photo booths seemed to wrap around the venue.
Senior Gianna Camacho expressed surprise at an unexpected highlight of the evening.
“I didn’t expect much from the caricature artist, but it turned out to be one of the night’s highlights,” Camacho said.
She and her friends managed to fit all five of them into one caricature, capturing their quirks in a way that was both “hilarious and heartwarming.”
The decorations and venue aligned with the Prom theme, leaving students impressed by the atmosphere created.
“There was a fountain where many people took photos,” Camacho said. “In the background, you could see the Ebell Theater sign, which was perfect.”
The red decorations tied into the theme of “Amor Eterno,” enhancing the overall experience.
Music played a significant role in the night as well. Students enjoyed a mix of popular hits and timeless classics that kept the energy lively. Senior Lucy Yan described the shared moments on the dance floor as an important part of the night’s memories.
“Those moments when we all synchronized our dance moves created a unique sense of unity; it felt like we were all part of something special,” Yan said.
Reflecting on the significance of Prom, Yan emphasized that the event gave students a chance to celebrate one of their final high school experiences.
“Prom is important because it gives students a chance to have a memorable moment,” Yan said.
Many students noted how the venue added to the overall experience.
“What makes Prom unique is the venue,” Camacho said. “Homecoming isn’t too dissimilar from Prom, but the venue is what truly sets Prom apart.”
With the success of this year’s Prom, students said the event gave them a night to remember as they prepare for the end of the school year.
“Senior year may often feel like a series of goodbyes, but this Prom allowed us to celebrate our friendships and experiences in ways we will look back on fondly for years to come,” Camacho said.
