Jan. 12. Actor Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman, and actress Lisa Bonet made their break up public in January after 16 years of being in a relationship. According to a source from PEOPLE magazine, Momoa and Bonet’s priorities began to differ. Momoa had to travel more often for work while Bonet opted to stay at home. The source continued by saying that the separation was putting strain on their relationship.
“The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and loved,” stated the two in a joint statement that has now been deleted.
Jan. 24. Marrissa Gunn and Riley Christian broke the news that they are ending an engagement in a statement to PEOPLE. The couple first met on “Bachelor in Paradise,” and had only been three months into their engagement. However, their breakup was not out of the blue as fans suspected their relationship was strained when Gunn removed her Instagram posts that involved Christian.
The two began posting cryptic messages before the announcement, with Christian tweeting that one should not “remain stagnant when facing obstacles beyond your control” and Gunn tweeting “sometimes you just have to see people for who they are, and not the potential they have.”
Feb 1. Tommy Dofrman, best known for acting in “13 Reasons Why,” and Peter Zhurklen filed for divorce. Though the couple was married for five years, they redefined their relationship since Dorfamn came out as transgender, according to an interview Dorfman had with TIMES news magazine.
“‘Personally, it’s wild to be 29 and going through puberty again,” said Dorfman in the interview. “Some days I feel like I’m 14. As a result of that shift, the types of romantic partnerships I seek out are different.’”
The two have now redefined their relationship as friends.
Feb. 14. Actress and model Julia Fox announced her breakup with rapper Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) on Valentines Day. Their relationship lasted a mere six weeks, going on dates only a week after meeting each other and Ye going so far as to gift Fox a hotel suite room full of clothes on their second date.
“‘After dinner… Ye had an entire hotel suite full of clothes. It was every girl’s dream come true. It felt like a real Cinderella moment…” Fox later wrote in Interview magazine.
March 4. Real estate agent and television personality Joshua Flagg and his husband of almost five years, Bobby Boyd, announced their divorce through a post shared on Instagram. The two were friends long before dating, but Flagg knew from the very first date that he wanted to marry Boyd.
The pair ended their marriage because of their diverging paths, according to a statement Boyd posted. Though this marks the end of their marriage, Boyd asserted that he still considers Flagg as family.
