In January, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) began selling its world-renowned Girl Scout cookies. While many people have been flocking to their neighborhood Girl Scouts, I have been slightly lax in my enthusiasm for these infamous treats.

This year, there have been two new additions to the cookie family, the Girl Scout S’mores cookie and the Toffee-tastic cookie, both selling for $6. Both seemed to mislead the populace as well as me, as the title of the cookies prompted a certain expectation of flavors in my mouth only to give way to a mouthful of disappointment.

The two most popular cookies are the Thin Mint and Samoa cookies. The Thin Mint cookie is exactly what its name implies: a mint cookie that is thinly covered in chocolate. The Samoa cookie is a chewy coconut delight that is drizzled with chocolate along with caramel.

These two cookies have ruled supreme for years and have overshadowed a few underdogs of the Girl Scout cookie community, which include the Savannah Smile, Do-si-do, and Tagalong cookies.

In my opinion, these underrated cookies taste delicious and have been overlooked by the public due to the high cry for Thin Mints and Samoas.

Yet, these three cookies might not be for everybody, especially those with a peanut allergy, since both Tagalongs and Do-si-dos contain peanuts.

However, if one is looking for a zesty lemony treat in the form of a wedge-shaped cookie and not a chocolate-covered one, a delectable Savannah Smile will get the job done.

I have not yet mentioned one of the cookies that is being sold by GSUSA because it is arguably the least-popular cookie out of all: the Trefoil cookie. It may not be the worst-tasting to some, but to me it is not the best cookie out there by far.

The Trefoil happens to be my personal least favorite. Even though the shortbread cookie is tasty, it is not nearly as flavorful and delicious as some of the other Girl Scout treat.

It is hard to go wrong when ordering Girl Scout cookies, unless one is allergic to peanuts, but all of these choices have their pros and cons.

At the end of the day, it not about being the world’s biggest food critic, but supporting the local Girl Scouts and helping them grow into beautiful, confident women.
