The Gabrielino Marching Regiment performed its final field show of the season, titled “Shattered,” on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025. It was the most unforgettable performance the band gave this year.
The show featured powerful music, including “In the End” by Linkin Park and other familiar songs, along with striking visuals. However, what stood out most was the theme. “Shattered” portrayed the idea of breaking apart and coming back together even stronger. The band faced many challenges this year, so the performance felt like it told their story—both on and off the field.
Drum major Dennese Cruz said, “When the band comes together to create a show like ‘Shattered,’ it’s really special.” She also expressed how proud she was of everyone’s hard work and noted how the title reflected their journey.
Throughout the season, the band competed against many other schools, which presented challenges. However, they worked hard and placed first or second in most competitions. In the end, they advanced to finals and finished eighth out of more than 20 schools—a major achievement that made all the hours of practice worthwhile.
The show used the concept of broken pieces to illustrate how, even when life is difficult and people feel shattered, strength can be found in those broken places. A vocal solo included the line, “The world breaks everyone and afterward many are stronger at the broken places.” It was a powerful conclusion to one of the songs. The audience fell silent during that moment, which captured the meaning of the show—how challenges and setbacks can ultimately build strength.
The color guard and band worked together to bring the music to life. The guard’s routines illustrated the idea of falling apart and coming together again, and the music shifted to reflect those emotions. Performers on the field acted out breaking and rebuilding, which emphasized the show’s theme.
