Trinity Classical Academy defeated Gabrielino High School, 47–35, in a CIF playoff game at FISCUS Field in Santa Clarita. Gabrielino and Trinity fought to keep their season alive, and Trinity led by as much as 19 points at various stages, a testament to the high stakes and intense competition.
In this game, defense was a major issue. Gabrielino struggled to stop the run game. Defensive lineman Johan Munguia said, “Defense didn’t play well,” in the match against Trinity Classical Academy. According to MaxPreps, two players combined for 625 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in the game. It was a challenge for both the offense and defense.
Gabrielino High School faced off against Trinity Classical Academy, and the game was close early. At halftime, the score was 13–7 in favor of Trinity. Trinity received the ball to start the second half, and that’s when things shifted for Gabrielino. Despite facing numerous penalties and Trinity rushing for over 600 yards, Gabrielino never gave up. They fell behind by as much as 19 points during the third and fourth quarters, but they continued to fight. Gabrielino attempted a late comeback but struggled against Trinity’s dominant rushing game, which scored multiple touchdowns on its first play from scrimmage, often running for over 50 yards. Trinity was able to gain 10 yards on nearly 50 to 60 percent of its plays. In the second half, with Trinity still leading, Gabrielino passed more effectively and scored 28 points—a testament to their determination and resilience—but it wasn’t enough.
This game meant a lot to Gabrielino and its future, but earning a spot in the playoffs is a major achievement for the school. Had Gabrielino won, it would have shown the entire San Gabriel Valley that Gabrielino is no joke, but the game ended in a loss. Despite the defeat, Gabrielino’s season was a success. They ended with a 7–4 overall record and a 7–3 regular-season record, their best since 2013, and finished second in the Mission Valley League’s last official season before it dissolved. It shows their resilience, hard work, and dedication—something to be proud of.
