On Aug. 12, Popeyes released a new chicken sandwich which has been receiving excessive media coverage due to the new item rivaling with Chick-fil-A’s own chicken sandwich. Many individuals are torn between which sandwich is better and have been voicing their opinions across all social media platforms. Both sandwiches have their own unique taste but when it comes down to it, the Popeyes sandwich has came out as the successor.
The Popeyes chicken sandwich comes in two styles, classic and spicy, and costs $3.99. The sandwich is comprised of a large piece of fried chicken topped with pickles and mayo, that is either spicy or regular, in between two brioche buns.
There is a crunchy texture when biting into the Popeyes sandwich and the savoriness of the chicken that kept me wanting more. The mayo spread adds a richness to the overall sandwich and elevates the flavor.
Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich comes in two styles as well, regular which costs $3.05 and spicy which costs $3.29. It costs an extra 60 cents for added condiments such as lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. The sandwich is made up of a large piece of chicken cooked in a pressure fryer, topped with pickles and sandwiched in between two buttered buns.
The first bite lacks a crunch compared to that of Popeyes and the flavor is savory but lacks the richness of a sauce. Chick-fil-A’s chicken sandwich was mediocre and tasted very bland.
Many have taken to social media to voice their opinions on both the sandwiches and even the accounts of Popeyes and Chick-fil-A have taken to twitter to add fuel to the #ChickenWars. Chick-fil-A tweeted, “Bun + Chicken + Pickles = all the love for the original” and the Popeyes twitter account fired back by saying, “…y’all good?” This sent the twitter-sphere into a frenzy and #ChickenWars began to trend number one.
When looking for a solid chicken sandwich that holds all the right flavors and textures, Popeyes is the way to go. Customers get their moneys worth with the amount of chicken they give and the tastiness is unmatched. The sauce makes the sandwich flavorful and the crunchiness of the chicken makes it enjoyable to eat. Popeyes’ chicken sandwich will leave their customers “loving that chicken from Popeyes.”
