Today, the varsity softball team will be playing at El Monte High School for their seventh Mission Valley League game.

On Wednesday, the Lady Eagles went up against South El Monte High School at SEMHS. Scores were not available during press time.

On Monday, GHS played an away preseason game against Montebello High School. GHS came home with the (win or lost) (score).

On March 22, the varsity girls played a home game against Arroyo High School and won/lost, (score).

The team faced off against Mountain View High School for the second time this season at home on March 18. The Lady Eagles had much to anticipate going into the game since they were dealt a hard loss at their first game against MVHS on March 8, 0-9.

“We have to be more aggressive. We have to take into consideration that now we know the pitcher and what she has, which we can build off of,” stated senior Victoria Gonzales.

The game started off well for the Lady Eagles as they were able to keep the Vikings from scoring at the end of the first inning. However, MVHS took the lead by scoring a run during the second inning. By the fourth inning, GHS was down 0-6, but continued fighting.

“The first time against [MVHS] we were struggling, we didn’t hit the ball as the team should,” stated junior Daniela Murillo. “This time the top of the lineup did their job and got on base.”

Although the girls were able to get on base, there were little opportunities to complete the run by getting to home base. The Lady Eagles were able to keep the Vikings from furthering the lead during the fifth and sixth inning. The team was not able to make a comeback as MVHS scored another two runs in the seventh inning and lost the game for the second time, 0-8.

“It hurt less to lose knowing we did our best. This is the best we can do,” said senior Samantha Young.

GHS got their second win of the regular season at Rosemead High School on March 15, 7-0.

On March 11, the team walked away with their first win of the season when Marshall High School forfeited the game.

To start off the season, GHS had a game against MVHS on March 8, and took a tough loss, 0-9.

“This year I feel like we have a lot more hope that we will win, in previous years it seemed like we were ready to always lose,” stated Young. “Our preseason gave us the confidence boost to beat teams that we usually lose to.”

Coach Andrea King credited the progressive season to having a large team with a young core who have an influence in the game, give it their all.

“It’s been two years since we have made it to CIF,” stated Coach King. “The goal is to place top four to make it to CIF.”
