Today, the Gabrielino High School (GHS) football team clashes against South Pasadena High School at 7:00 p.m. Tonight’s home game is family night for the GHS Eagles football team.
For tonight’s game, halftime will be dedicated to celebrating the families of each football player. Individually, each player’s name will be called as they walk to the center of the football field with their family.
On Sept. 23 the Eagles played an away game against South El Monte High School. Scores were unavailable at press time.
The GHS football team competed against Santa Clarita Christian High School (SCCHS) on Sept. 17 at an away game. The Eagles triumphed over the Cardinals, 32-26.
All throughout the game, each team scored touchdowns back to back. In the fourth quarter the Eagles secured their win with a touchdown. The highlight of the game happened when Justin Minor, senior, intercepted the ball during the Cardinals last attempt to make score a touchdown.
“This year’s team has a [strong] group of leaders that will help propel us forward,” stated Nicholas Merica, assistant coach.
The first conference game of the season for the GHS Eagles was played against the Mark Keppel High School (MKHS) Aztecs. The GHS football team trounced the MKHS football team, 49-0.
“I felt very confident going into the game,” stated Paul Tostado, senior, “[I knew] we were going to beat them.”
The GHS football team traveled over to Clairemont High School on Aug. 26 for their first football game. Although it was the first football game for GHS, it was an nonconference game.
It was a close game for the Eagles. During the first three quarters the Eagles and the Chief-
tains were tied. In the fourth quarter the Chieftains scored 13 more points. The GHS football team was defeated, 27-40.
