The boys team performed well at the Mount San Antonio College Invitational on Oct. 21. The sophomore team finished first with sophomore Skylar Hudson coming in first overall. The varsity team came in 11th with Jayson Espinosa coming in fourth overall.
On Oct. 15, the Gabrielino High School Cross Country team raced at the 30th annual Bell Gardens invitational for its fifth non-league meet this season.
“I would like to surpass my previous records and continue to better myself through consistent training and discipline and help my team,” stated junior Brendan Nguyen.
Last week, the Gabrielino cross country team took on 17 schools at the Central Park Invitational. Scores were unavailable at press time.
On Oct. 5, GHS ran at the Mission Valley League Cluster #2 in Legg Lake Park. After a day of hard work, the varsity Eagles achieved 2nd place behind only one other school, with an overall score of 67. The girls varsity Eagles had an exceptional day as well, with a score of 117, led by sophomore Cassidy Liu, and seniors Vivian Lee and Jady Ojeda.
On Sept. 23, the Eagles faced off at the Sunny Hills invitational at Craig Park. The GHS Eagles had yet another excellent meet as the boys sophomore unit placed fourth out of twenty, and the girls varsity placed 13th out of 20. This race was exceptional for the Eagles, as they beat the time from their most recent running of the course, as well as achieved a new personal record.
On Sept. 15, the Eagles clashed against seven teams at the Mission Valley League Cluster #1 at Bonelli Regional Park.
The Eagles placed second out of seven for the Varsity boys and placed fourth out of seven for the varsity girls. The varsity girls successfully beat their previous time from the same race a year ago.
The highlight of the season happened on Sept. 9, when the Eagles ran over to the Rosemead invitational. The boys sophomore varsity team scored first place as well as beating the time from the same course a year ago, and setting new personal records. The girls varsity team ran well as they achieved 14th place out of 23.
“After this last race, our runners showed that we have a lot of potential for the rest of the season” stated Cross Country coach Ryan Kammerman. “Trying to beat Arroyo, as well as trying to retain 2nd place in league will be challenging, but it is possible.”
