Ten best Halloween movies of all time

    1. Halloweentown  (1998)

      Produced by Disney, the film was released in 1998 and was a culmination of reality and magical fiction. Marnie Piper, a teen witch living in a suburban neighborhood, blasts off to the fictional Halloween town. Intent on following her grandmother’s footsteps, Marnie begins training but is caught up in a whirlwind of trouble as she now has to save Halloweentown with the help of her brother and sister. The film is full of adventure and mystery, making it one to watch during the Halloween season.  

    1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

       Produced in 1993, this Disney film is not one to miss during the Halloween season, paying homage to witchcraft and wizardry. After moving to Salem, MA, two teenagers find themselves in a magical bind as they’ve accidently released three infamous witches back into the world, making it the perfect film to get people in the Halloween spirit. 

     

    1. Casper (1995)

       We have all heard of ghosts chillingly haunting grounds. However, this film brings into light the friendlier side of the fictional paranormal. Casper, a friendly ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion, falls in love with a mortal girl who accompnaies her father as he arrives to communicate with Casper. The duo fall into a cyclone of mischief and troublemaking as their relationship is troubled by Casper’s transparent state. 

     

    1. Twitches (2005)

       Another Disney film that arises during Halloween, is yet another that should not be forgotten. The film encompasses twin sisters, seperated at birth, who are witches from a royal kingdom. In order to save their home the two work together to battle an emerging darkness.

     

    1. Haunted Mansion (2003)

       This Disney produced film that successfully balances humor and excitement. Eddie Murphy stars in the film as workaholic father, Jim Evers, who takes his family on a vacation, stopping by an eerie mansion that he has to sell. The family then becomes tangled in a web of terror and revelation as they are to help the servants of the household break a curse. 

     

    1. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

       There could not be enough recognition for this classic animated film, which bridges two iconic holidays . The Nightmare Before Christmas circles around Jack Skellington, the Punpkin King, and his journey into bringing Christmas to Halloweentown. However, Jack and his mates quickly stumble upon trouble as their plans go awry. The film meshes musicality with excitement, as the characters try to untangle themselves from the mess they have created. 

     

    1. Coraline (2009)

       This film often leaves viewers anxious and disturbed while they watch as a young girl named Coraline moves into a new home. Loathing her parents, Coraline finds a passageway that she uses to escape from her real parents in the real world. However, the “other mother” has ulterior motives as Coraline finds herself trapped in a nightmare she cannot escape from.

    1. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

       A classic animation, in which the Peanuts Gang brings the lively fall feel to viewers. Linus Van Pelt and his innocent belief in the Great Pumpkin, often leaves viewers with a sense of childhood nostalgia that should not be forgtten at a time of “tricks and treats”.  

     

    1. Corpse Bride (2005)

       The animated film surrounds Victor and Victoria, who are set up in an arranged marriage. Victor finds himself in the land of the dead after being trapped there by a corpse who wants to marry him. He lands in a web of adventure and terror as he tries to make his way back to Victoria before it’s too late. 

     

    1. Beetlejuice (1988)

       This film is another classic movie that cannot be missed for the spooky season. A perfect balance between fantasy and horror, the film encompasses the haunting of a couple that attempt to scare away a family that purchased their home. However, their efforts attract Beetlejuice, an exuberant spirit who later becomes dangerous for the couple and the mortals in the home, leaving viewers shaking in their seats.
