“The thing that makes Humorous Interp special is that it’s the one event where you can just sit back and enjoy the show the whole way through,” explained senior Andrew Do.
In Humorous Interpretation, also known as HI, students perform one or more portions of a play, short story, or other published work, for up to ten minutes. Competitors may portray one or more characters, but cannot use props or costumes. The purpose of HI is to engage the audience by performing comedic bits.
This year, Gabrielino High School has 27 members in HI. Two students from the HI category have qualified for the National Speech & Debate Association’s national tournament.
“Humor is all about being able to have fun,” stated junior Alvaro David Campos, “When you get your audience to laugh, that’s when you know you’re doing it right.”
