Whether it is through sports or other extracurricular activities, getting involved in school is the best way to demonstrate school spirit. There are many ways to participate, but here are some that are particularly worthwhile.
1. Attend a school dance School dances are a g
reat way to have fun, whether it is with a date or with a group of friends. Usually set at the end of the week, students are able to unwind by dressing up and dancing. The Homecoming dance is on Oct. 14 and tickets are sold on the stage in the quad.
2. Watch a school play, The drama department hosts a total of four plays throughout the school year, one for each season. By displaying their acting skills, students become integrated into
a community of hard worker and are rewarded with determination and dedication. Take part by talking to Jan Gluskin, Gabrielino’s resident drama teacher in room E170. Auditions are open to anyone interested.
3. Perform in Say What Gather up a group of friend and sign up for Say What Karaoke, an event in which students rehearse and perform to a selfmade soundtrack. During the week of Homecoming, studens
are given a chance to either showcase their talent or simply act ridiculous. Most state that the rush of performing makes for an unforgettable experience.
4. Participate in class council As a subsection of ASB, class council always faces a shortage of volunteers near the beginning of the school year. Members are allowed to work behind the scenes alongside ASB to set up for events like Homecoming. Each grade level has their own
respective class council. Start contributing by signing up with the class presidents or talking to an ASB member.
5. Cheer on a sports team. Attending a sports game is a
great opportunity to hang out with friends after school and support the athletes. The intense atmosphere allows students to forget about other matters and simply cheer alongside everyone else. The sports in season are girls volleyball, girls golf, cross
country, and football. Game schedules can be found on the Gabrielino website.
