The Wellness Center is a space designed with student benefit in mind. An important part of the Wellness Center is the thrift store in room B144. In the thrift store, students can find all their clothing necessities.
The Wellness Center thrift store is an essential branch that reaches many students in need. Throughout the school year, students can rely on the thrift store for free clothes, school necessities, and material support.
To help spread the message to all students, the Wellness Center has employed various advertising methods, from morning announcements to flyers posted around the school, ensuring all students who may find it useful are aware of its existence.
The thrift store is invaluable during the winter months, as it provides students with resources like coats, pants, sweaters, and anything else to keep them warm. The thrift store has also served a vital role by assisting students impacted by the recent wildfires in the area.
Students who were forced to evacuate or are struggling due to the fires can rely on the Wellness Center thrift store for support during this challenging time. In this situation, many families had to leave behind much of their belongings, among them, clothes. So if a student or anyone in the Gabrielino community finds themselves in need, they can count on the thrift store to be there.
The thrift store is meant to help all students because “…everyone comes from different places, and goes through different struggles. So our main goal is just to help whoever we can,” stated senior Allyson Kim, who helps students in the Wellness Center during fourth period.
The thrift store receives donations from anyone who wants to and can donate. Donations are accepted at any moment and there is no need to wait for a specific time. If students have any extra clothes, instead of donating them to any major thrift stores, they can hand them to the Gabrielino Wellness Center thrift store.
Students are at the forefront of what the Wellness Center aims to do. It is first and foremost a space for students to feel safe and supported.
The thrift store has this same purpose. It is an extension of the Wellness Center that helps those in need, whenever they may need it.
