At 3:30 p.m. today, the Gabrielino High School girls varsity soccer team will play against Arroyo High School once again on Arroyo’s campus in El Monte. The Eagles lost their previous game against Arroyo by only one point, so the teams are fairly evenly matched.
“I’m hoping for a comeback, hopefully we’ll take an early lead,” stated senior Valeria Ball, who is an attacking forward and midfielder.
Senior Kaylani Seto, captain of the team, is optimistic about the game.
“I hope we win,” Seto said. “I think we can. If we pull through with the aggressiveness from the past few games, we can win.”

Gabrielino had a quick lead after scoring within the first two minutes, but lost the lead to a penalty kick.
“We played as hard as we could. A tie is better than a loss!” laughed senior Jocelyn Cruz, a defensive midfielder.

In another game five days prior, the team won against John Muir High School 6-0, one of their highest scores of the season. The game was held on Gabrielino’s soccer field at 3:30 p.m.
The girls played against Northview High School on Nov. 29, 2022 at 3:15 p.m on their campus. It was a close game, with Gabrielino winning 6-4.
“The season had a good start,” began senior Emilia Esseln, one of the teams’ defensive midfielders. “But we’ve lost our intensity.”
In response to Esseln’s comment, Seto added, “But we’re going back up!”
