Zack Hill

   Senior Zack Hill believes in his physical strength and great game sense to conquer his goal for CIF as a boys soccer captain.

  “I hope to get a banner on that gym, you get a banner and ring for the school,” Hill stated. 

   Hill feels that his teammates should follow their hearts, give their all, and be persistent all the time while on the soccer field.  

   “We’ve got to win more games and just play more at practice and just have more time with each other,” Hill explained. “As we play longer we will be more comfortable with each other.”

Jose Perez 

   Strong-willed senior Jose Perez has big aspirations for the future as a boys soccer captain. 

  “Since I came to this school as a freshman, I have always wanted to make it to CIF,” Perez stated. 

  With experience on varsity since Perez’s freshman year, his main goal is to bring the team to a CIF victory.

  This season Perez hopes to build stronger team chemistry than in past years in order to achieve every player’s full potential.   

   “[Soccer] is what I love, I have been playing this since I was a little kid…joy [is all I feel while playing],” Perez said. 

Mike Otoguro 

   Mike Otoguro, senior and a captain of the boys basketball team, is planning to use his past experiences of being a team captain to lead them to victory. 

  “We have a group of very talented people, so leading them… giving them a sense of direction… there is some pressure on the captains but I feel like as a senior you can’t let that pressure get to you,” stated Otoguro.

   The two ideals Otoguro wants the team to improve are expanding communication and tenacity.    

   Otoguro expressed that “because basketball is a team game, it is very important [that] tenacity [exists].”

Sarah Banh

   Motivated athlete, junior Sarah Banh, a captain of the girl’s basketball team, is committed to her team being at their best while on the court. 

  “We have a very different group of players than last year… I look forward to forming better bonds with one another throughout this season,” Banh stated. 

  As a team captain, Banh intends to make the team closer by organizing get-togethers so they can form strong bonds on and off the court. 

   “I believe it’ll be easy to secure a spot in CIF but once we’re in playoffs, I’ll definitely feel the pressure to win,” she stated. 

Mia Lim

   Junior Mia Lim, a captain of the girls basketball team, is a dedicated leader while on the basketball court. 

   “I have to do a good job as a leader…[to] be supportive of my teammates,” she explained.

   Lim is committed to improving her team’s communication by encouraging team bonding and hanging out after games. 

   “I always try and talk [to] encourage my teammates as well,” Lim said contently. 

   While in-game, Lim always cheers on her teammates to get the winning scores. 

   “[At] the Temple City game, we were behind…I was tired but did not let it get to me,” Lim stated. 

Nicholas Ludington

   Senior Nicolas Ludington, a captain of the boys soccer team, strives for his team to be at its best through collaboration. 

  “It comes down to communication so I think if we are constantly talking to each other…pass[ing] the ball on the field [will be simple],” Ludington stated. 

   Ludington’s experience as captain for a different team will assist him this season. 

   Balancing sports and school is no problem for Ludington. Last soccer season he received the “scholar-athlete” award for maintaining top grades while on the team. 

  “We have a good team this year…I feel excited to help the team win,” Ludington said confidently. 

Maddie Chiu

   With three years of varsity basketball experience from another school, junior Maddie Chiu aspires to have her team do their best during games as a captain of the girls basketball team. 

  “I definitely wanna establish good communication between all of [us],” Chiu said confidently, “I want strong friendships. It can be hard having freshmen and also seniors on the team… but I do want everyone to be connected to each other.” 

   Chiu’s greatest role models are her parents and she uses their qualities on the basketball court.

   “They work very hard and are good examples. They’re confident, they respect their peers,” she stated.
