With the arrival of spring, San Gabriel is back in bloom… and Gabrieino students have to deal with dreaded AP tests and final exams. To lighten these stressful times, the Tongva Times has collected a list of the 10 best spring things.
10. The Easter Bunny
At dead malls across America, Easter Bunnies are forced to sit in a hot, uncomfortable costume all day, surrounded by colorful spring decor that contrasts sharply with the lack of activity around them. Which is all to say they’re kind of creepy. Mall Santas are better.
9. Green Leaves
Spring marks the season of green… the worst color! When there are so many colorful flowers blooming around, why would you be satisfied with the plain, boring color of chlorophyll?
8. Hollow Chocolate Bunnies
Unlike the real-life versions, usually, chocolate bunnies don’t move around. Except I never usually finish them and they always disappear half-eaten so…
7. Bees
Buzz buzz. Sometimes the season makes you think of the critically acclaimed animated feature film The Bee Movie and that according to all known laws of aviation, bees should not be able to fly.
6. Golden Eggs
When I was younger and still participated in Easter Egg hunts, I coveted the legendary golden egg, which all my rich aunts and uncles filled with all the money they had nothing better to do with. But then I’m always forced to give it to my little cousin. GRRRRrrrrrrr
5. A Spring-Thing
A device installed on pickup trucks to reduce the noise from their “leaf springs”. I’m not sure what this actually has to do with the season, but it seems to check off all the boxes.
4. Butterflies
Pretty little insects with beautiful wings, I get why they’re appealing, but I must ask: How does butter fly?
3. Tulips
The favorite flowers of the Dutch! There’s nothing quite like big, colorful tulip bulbs and they’re only around in the summer. I make sure to travel to Holland to get mine every year!
2. Ladybugs
Cute, round, red with black spots, ladybugs are irresistible. But who knows what goes on behind their cold, insectoid eyes…
1. Pinwheels
Small, round garden fans that spin in the wind and bring delight to everyone who passes by. Sometimes they’re still, and other times the wind blows and makes them go wooossshhhhhh.
